Cesar Chavez Service Day, 2005

More than 200 young people joined the LA Conservation Corps in making the birthday of Cesar E. Chavez a day "on" instead of a day off at Arroyo Seco Museum Science Magnet School on Thursday, March 31, 2005.  Ranging in age from 13 to 23, the young people worked on painting murals, installing a trail and planting garden beds to  benefit more than 600 students and faculty at the campus, located in Highland Park.

All of the projects were dedicated to the memory of Cesar E. Chavez, community leader and founder of the United Farm Workers of America. When they were done, the young people gathered for a commemoration ceremony where they were commended for their efforts to improve the campus and set a positive example for the students by Albina Ferreyra, Deputy to Councilman Ed Reyes, and Principal Ortiz and Assistant Principal Mr. Benson of Arroyo Seco Museum Magnet School.

The students wish to thank the community volunteers from the County of LA who helped out on Cesar Chavez Day 2005. If you would like to volunteer at future events like this one, please call 213-362-9000, ext. 260.
