I started training with LACC at
the age of 13, and participated in the program until I was 18 years old.
I was excited because it was my first job ever. The most exciting part of
my LACC training was rescuing marine animals. I like the fact that every
animal that we rescue is used to educate kids and then they’re released
back into the ocean. This is what makes us different from other aquariums,
which don’t release their animals.

Not only did the program
help me gain job skills, but they also oriented me academically by offering
scholarships. I earned $5,300 in scholarships from working with LACC. The
program also helped me improve myself. I learned that even though I am shy,
I am able to step up to leadership roles.
Now I’m attending El Camino College. I’m finishing my general
education courses and planning on transferring to a California university
where I can study Zoology.
