| The Week of the Young
Child honors more than 35 million children from birth to the age of eight
and is spearheaded by the National Association for the Education of Young
Children (NAEYC), which is also the nation’s largest and most influential
organization of early childhood educators. Founded in 1926, NAEYC celebrated
its 75th anniversary with over 100,000 members and a national network of
nearly 450 local, state and regional affiliates. Together, NAEYC groups
work to improve professional practice and working conditions in early childhood
education and to build public support for high quality early childhood education
programs. The NAEYC also serves as the accrediting agent for pre-school
programs, like LA Conservation Corps’ Good Beginnings program, across the country. “Research has shown that early education can make a tremendous difference in the lives of children,” said Councilmember Reyes. “Providing our children with opportunities is everyone’s responsibility.” A strong supporter of childhood programs, early this year, Councilmember Reyes announced he secured $100,000 for LA Conservation Corps’ Good Beginnings program. Moreover, last year Reyes secured $25,000 to construct playground equipment at an adjacent play facility used by the organization. “The LA Conservation Corps’ Good Beginnings program is essential to the future of these children. It’s about giving our children an equal opportunity and a head start in their education. I can’t think of anything more important,” said Councilman Reyes. << back to news & events |
