Sidewalk Repair Training Graduation

Last week, Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez hosted a graduation ceremony for the young adults who completed the Council District 7 Sidewalk Repair Program. The Councilwoman launched and funded this program in partnership with us this February. Through this program we provided eight young adults between the ages of 18–26 from the San Fernando Valley with three weeks of classroom training where they learned how to handle power tools, improve communication skills and increase their future employability while learning how to repair some of our worst sidewalks. The crew did their first sidewalk repair in Pacoima in front of Vaughn International Studies Academy, fulfilling a 15 year old request and repaired our final sidewalk on Sayre St. in Sylmar along the highly trafficked Sylmar Square.

Thank you Councilwoman Rodriguez for creating and funding this sidewalk repair initiative, which not only addresses the critical need for sidewalk repair in our community but also provides young adults with valuable job training and skills for their future careers. Opportunities like this one are not just about earning a paycheck, they are about investing in our youth’s future and investing in our own backyard. We see this as more than just fixing sidewalks; it’s about investing in our community’s future leaders. Check out the photo highlights from last week’s graduation below!

Meet Corpsmember Anastasio

Anastasio recently joined the Corps seeking opportunity and a chance to finish his high school diploma. He is learning discipline, responsibility, and time management and setting himself up for a bright future. After he finishes his high school diploma with the Corps he hopes to go to college so that he can reach his full potential. Anastasio’s story parallels that of so many of our Corpsmembers. We are excited to have him at the Corps and proud to help him achieve his goals.
