January Newsletter: Gratitude Report Released and LA Corps Honored as Project of the Year

Dear Friend of the Corps,

We hope the New Year is treating you well so far.

At the Corps, we’ve begun 2026 in full force, continuing our work across the city and county. While it’s a new year, our commitment to strengthening Los Angeles communities remains as strong as ever.

We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to all our supporters who engaged with us at the end of the year and helped us begin 2026 on strong footing. Your generosity and engagement truly make a difference in the lives of our Corpsmembers and the neighborhoods we serve.

As we move forward, we’re excited to share several exciting new updates about recent accomplishments and upcoming events!

Recently, we released our FY 2024–25 Gratitude Report, sent a save-the-date for our 40th Anniversary Luncheon, were honored with The Corps Network’s Project of the Year Award, and launched two new videos spotlighting our Corpsmember Alumni.

We are proud to share our Gratitude Report for Fiscal Year 2024–25.

First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us. This includes donors, partners, elected officials, volunteers, Corpsmembers, and staff. Your time, generosity, ideas and support makes it possible for us to not only strengthen our local environment but also empower the young adults at the heart of our mission. Because of you, Corpsmembers are able to gain valuable career skills, earn steady incomes, and do their part to make Los Angeles a greener place to live and work.

LA Conservation Corps Honored

The Corps Network’s Project of the Year Award

On December 17, 2025, The Corps Network announced the winners of their 2026 Corpsmember and Project of the Year Awards. We are extremely honored to be recognized as one of two winners for the 2026 Project of the Year Award, which is awarded to corps that have taken on especially impactful, challenging, or innovative initiatives.

To learn more about our awarded project, click here.

Our awarded project centers around the devastating wildfires and our immediate response to protect the Los Angeles watershed during the Eaton and Palisades Fires in early January 2025. Under Governor Newsom’s Watershed Protection Mission directive, seven crews were deployed to fire-affected areas for 15-day periods to prevent hazardous materials from polluting LA’s water systems.

Disaster relief and recovery is one of the Corps’ main environmental initiatives, and we are proud to be recognized for our commitment to the Los Angeles area during challenging times. For more information on our wildfire recovery work over the past year, check out this video featuring our Acting CEO, Tamara Muzac-Bravo, and Deputy Director of Conservation Programs, Bo Savage.

Please Watch - Two Videos Featuring

Corps Alumni & Staff Spotlights from December

Reflecting on our 40 years of service, we are proud to have had several generations of Corpsmembers walk through our doors, better their communities, and invest in their professional futures.

Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with two Corpsmember alumni to hear more about their journey with our program and beyond.

We invite you to watch the videos below to learn about Christie Nolasco, a Case and Transition Coordinator at the Corps, and Simboa Wright, Vice President of SEIU Local 721. Both Christie and Simboa used the valuable lessons they learned at the LA Conservation Corps to help kickstart their career journeys.

Their stories are a powerful reminder of how the impact of the Corps extends far beyond a moment in time. We are proud to create pathways for future Corpsmembers to learn, grow, and make lasting changes in their communities and themselves.

Congratulations! River Rangers Graduation

On January 23rd, our River Rangers graduated from their year-long program at Los Angeles City Hall. Over the past year, the Corpsmembers in our River Rangers program worked in partnership with the LA Office of Community Beautification to protect public spaces along the Los Angeles River, preserve native flora and fauna, and prevent trash from reaching the ocean. Becoming stewards of the vital LA River environment, our Corpsmembers also learned about the history of the river and the native animals and vegetation that call it home.

We are very grateful for the state-funded support from the Californians For All grant, which helps us do this important work. Congratulations to our 2026 River Rangers graduates!
