Corpsmembers & LA Fire Recovery

Dear Friends of the Corps,

I’m writing to share an update on the LA Conservation Corps’ wildfire recovery efforts. As I shared previously, the Corps is activated, engaged in recovery efforts, and here to help. Emergency response is in our DNA, and driving recovery is at the heart of our mission.

I am proud to announce that the LA Conservation Corps is participating in an historic partnership with the California Conservation Corps and other State departments to support the largest emergency response deployment of Corpsmembers in California’s history.

Last week, I had the privilege of visiting the Rose Bowl, where five LA Conservation Corps crews (53 Corpsmembers and 11 staff) joined approximately 400 California Conservation Corps corpsmembers and a crew from Conservation Corps of Long Beach. Together, they camped out in preparation for their first 14-day deployment to assist with watershed restoration efforts.

Below is a photo I captured of our teams at basecamp at The Rose Bowl:

I encourage you to take two minutes to watch this video to hear, in their own words, what this work means to our Corpsmembers. This work is hitting home for so many of these young adults who understand the importance of supporting their friends, families and neighbors who have been personally touched by the LA Fires.

Our Corpsmembers are currently supporting watershed protection work at the Palisades and Eaton Fire areas and staying close by at base camps in Zuma Beach and at the Santa Anita Raceway. Over the weekend, some of our crews installed K-Rails and prepared sandbags and straw wattles to place on fire-ravaged properties—critical measures to contain hazardous materials from the fires from entering LA’s creeks, rivers, and other bodies of water.

Here is another look at the important work we’re doing:

We remain committed to continuing recovery and restoration efforts in the weeks and months ahead. Your partnership makes this vital work possible, and we are deeply grateful for your unwavering support.

In hope and support,
